Curious About the Southern Ontario Trail System?

In Southern Ontario Canada, there are several trails that people might enjoy exploring from the comfort of their home along with "Bushwhacker" "The Wife" and "Ranger". The blog 2oldguyswalking.wordpress.com was started in 2013 and is still going strong as "Bushwhacker" and his wife or his buddy "Ranger" explore trails that lie at the end of those no exit signs you see at the end of dead-end roads, as well as the official trail system and history of South-Central Ontario.

About Two Old Guys Walking

How did the 2oldguyswalking.com blog start? Here is the explanation in Bushwhacker's words from the website.
WELL, I GOTTA START SOMEWHERE … September 10, 2013 · by 2oldguyswalking · in GENESIS ·
What seems like decades ago (probably ’cause it was) 2 young fellows enjoyed hiking together. They’d mark trails for local hiking clubs, joined local wildlife societies, and explored the local wilderness (as it was). They created fanciful nicknames for each other like “Ranger” and “Bushwhacker”. Then, the Corporate world reared its ugly head, and our heroes drifted apart for near 20 years. Our story might have ended on that tragic note, were it not for the miracle of early retirement and small-town happenstance.
On Feb 23rd, 2012 our intrepid (and considerably older) fellows met up, quite by accident, on the street. They agreed to meet for a walk on a local trail. By the time they’d finished the walk, it was like the last 20 years had never happened. They spent the better part of the next year stomping their way through many a trail. Then, one-day Bushwhacker noticed a local un-named side road and asked Ranger if he knew what was up there. Ranger pointed out that it had a No Exit sign on it. So, up they went, to find a trail at the end of the road. They began exploring every No Exit road they could find, and more often than not, found trails at their ends. That’s how it all started.
Hence, when I created 2oldguyswalking, I chose the No Exit sign to represent it.
However, soon after initiating the blog, Ranger’s interests returned to his original passion … history. Fortunately, my wife and I are experienced wilderness campers, canoeists, and hikers, right from our dating/college days. So she took over for Ranger, in reviewing trails with me.
Now Ranger and I get together weekly, to search for historic sites, graves, plaques, old foundations, and abandoned buildings. The rest of the time, I’m on trails with “The Wife”. We cover the history and trails, of South Central Ontario from Perth to the Muskokas, and South to Lake Ontario.
I thoroughly enjoyed the glimpse into some of the history of the small village where \ I grew up on their site and I'm looking forward to enjoying more of this unusual travelogue of rural backroads and the places the trails are located. I think you will enjoy it too.
